I offer both repair and restoration work. Whether you need specific repair or restoration work or you just want advice on how to improve your instrument's sound, I can help you.
When I assess an instrument, I look first at the core structure and then at the holistic functioning of bridge, soundpost, strings, pegs and tailpiece (the 'setup'). Most of the time I only need to make adjustments to the setup to restore an instrument's voice. For example, problems that are commonly experienced by musicians are slipping pegs, bumpy fingerboards and warped bridges. Sometimes I notice problems with the core structure. These include cracks in the wood, arching distortions and poorly aligned necks. They all impact to varying degrees on the sound of the instrument. Bridges Given the central role of the bridge in sound production, I use top quality timber for the optimum sound. The technique I use involves removing the wood bit by bit and trying the instrument regularly. Bows I offer rehairing and repairs on bows. I use top quality Siberian hair. Whatever your need, I have the expertise and craftsmanship necessary to restore an instrument to its true potential. |
